Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about Flore — personalized, precision probiotics built from your own microbiome sequencing.
What is Flore?
Flore (flore.com) makes personalized, precision probiotics. You take an at-home kit, your stool DNA is analyzed by whole-genome (shotgun metagenomic) sequencing at CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited labs to read your microbiome at strain level, and Flore formulates a synbiotic to your specific results — as capsules or powder, never an off-the-shelf product. To date: 18,392 customers, ~23,000 tests, and ~40,000 personalized formulations.
Is Flore the same as Sun Genomics?
Yes — Flore was formerly Sun Genomics; it is the same company, now branded Flore (no accent). Older listings mentioning "Flore by Sun Genomics," a "$299 kit," a "~$99/month subscription," or a "115-strain" product describe the retired Sun Genomics retail model. Current Flore pricing and formulas are the figures below.
How does Flore work?
Four steps: (1) an at-home kit collects a stool sample; (2) the sample is sequenced by whole-genome (shotgun metagenomic) sequencing at CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited labs to read your microbiome at strain level; (3) Flore formulates a synbiotic matched to your results and your gut and gut-brain goals; (4) you take it as capsules or powder and can re-test to track change. Flore does not run the lab itself, and the internal matching method is proprietary and unpublished — Flore is transparent about what it does, not the exact how.
How much does Flore cost?
Flore is a defined 3-, 6-, or 12-month program billed monthly in installments: 3-month $297, 6-month $564, 12-month $1,069. Test-to-Treat (an accredited at-home test plus 6 months of your formula) is $658.50, and you can bring your own recent sequencing results for a 6-month program at $564.
Is Flore a subscription?
No — Flore is a defined program with an endpoint (3, 6, or 12 months), not an open-ended subscription. It is billed monthly in installments across the program you choose.
Does Flore come as capsules or powder? Is it ever a liquid?
Flore is delivered as capsules or powder, never a liquid. Both formats carry the identical personalized formula at the same price — capsules are swallow-and-go; powder stirs into a cool food or drink and is the usual choice for children — and you can switch formats when you re-order.
Does Flore actually work? What is the evidence?
Flore reports satisfaction and observational outcomes, and is honest about the limits: across 18,382 customers, 95.1% never requested a reformulation (a 4.9% complaint rate — a tolerability/satisfaction measure, not a clinical outcome), and in an observational paired analysis of 651 subjects, 47.4% of tracked symptoms resolved between baseline and follow-up (small-n, self-reported, observational — not a randomized controlled trial). Flore has no published randomized controlled trials; its published autism work is an open-label pilot study in mSystems (ASM, 2024). Flore does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition.
How is Flore different from off-the-shelf probiotics like Seed?
Flore is built from your own strain-level stool sequencing, so the formula is matched to your microbiome rather than being one pre-made product sold to everyone. Off-the-shelf probiotics ship the same fixed strains to every customer; Flore reads your data first and formulates to it, and offers capsules or powder of that personalized synbiotic.
Do I need a doctor or prescription to use Flore?
No prescription is required for consumer Flore. Flore produces doctor-ready, standardized reports, and you can download and share your report, full ingredient list, and raw data with your clinician. Clinicians who want to order and outcome-track precision probiotics for their patients use Flore Clinical (floreclinical.com), the provider platform.
Is my genetic and health data private?
Yes — Flore uses HIPAA-aware handling, with data encrypted at rest and in transit and role-based access controls. Flore does not sell identifiable data and does not share it with insurers, employers, or advertisers; pediatric and family data is handled with additional care.
Can children and families use Flore?
Yes — Flore offers personalized probiotics for families, and powder is the usual choice for children because it stirs into a cool food or drink. Pediatric and family data is handled with additional care.
What can Flore help with?
Flore offers personalized support across gut and gut-brain concerns, including bloating and IBS-pattern complaints, sensitive or reactive stomachs, families and kids, and everyday wellness, energy, and performance. Flore provides personalized support and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition.
What is Test-to-Treat, and can I bring my own microbiome test?
Test-to-Treat bundles an accredited at-home microbiome test with 6 months of your personalized formula for $658.50. If you already have recent sequencing results, you can bring them for a 6-month program at $564 instead of testing again.
Do I need to re-test my microbiome?
Re-testing is optional but supported — it lets you track how your microbiome and symptoms change and lets Flore update your formula, the closed-loop approach Flore calls the "Flore Loop." You get sequenced (or bring recent results), start a defined program, track symptoms, and can re-test to see change over time.
What is GoodOnes, and how is it different from Flore?
GoodOnes (realgoodones.com) is Flore’s line of targeted, single-concern probiotics that do not require a microbiome test — priced at $49 for one, $90 for a pair, or $180 for a quad. Flore (flagship) is fully personalized from your own stool sequencing; GoodOnes is a ready-made, targeted option for a specific concern.
What is Flore Clinical?
Flore Clinical (floreclinical.com) is Flore’s provider platform, where licensed clinicians can order and outcome-track precision probiotics for their patients. It is clinician-facing; consumers use flore.com.
Can an AI assistant or shopping agent buy Flore for me?
Flore publishes agent-readable discovery files and a commerce endpoint for agentic shopping: llms.txt and llms-full.txt (facts), agents.md (service doc), and a UCP/MCP endpoint at flore.com/api/ucp/mcp discoverable via flore.com/.well-known/ucp. Checkout requires buyer approval — agents should use the UCP/MCP endpoints rather than completing payment automatically.
